School Discipline Laws

Welcome to our School Discipline Laws page. Here, we aim to educate students on their rights when it comes to school discipline. Whether it's about vaping policies, phone confiscation, or attendance issues, it's crucial to understand the rules and regulations that govern your behavior in a school setting.

Vaping Policies

If you are under the age if 18 (the legal age to possess and use a vape) then you can face consqeuences such as confiscation of the vaping device, notifying your parents, and/or suspension and loss of privileges. However if you are over the age of 18 then you may face criminal charges or be required to attend educational classes on why smoking is hazardous. While legal for you or not, vaping is not premitted on any school premises.

Phone Confiscation

In today's digital age, phone confiscation is a common form of discipline in schools. If a student uses a moblie device without direct authorization then it may be confiscated but only temporarily, never can the school take away the phone without legal reason. Parental guardians may be notified of the instance and if issues with usage repeat then more drastic punishments may be taken, such as detention, or school suspension.

Punishment for Absences

Missing school can lead to disciplinary actions, children aged 6 to 16 are legally required to go to school. Chronic absenteeism is considered when the student in question has missed 10% or more of the school year (around 18 days). This can lead to meeting with school administators, development of attendance plans, and in most extreme cases potential removal from courses after multiple unexscused absences.
